The hot water hits your body, relaxing your mind… it starts to wander. Starts to imagine a different scenario, one where you’re a total badass and say the exact thing in the coolest way possible to where the person you were arguing could never get the upper hand. It’s a glorious burn.
It’s a shower argument. The best kind of argument. Where you can be the bold version of yourself and actually formulate a real sentence.
I recently saw a meme that was a book titled Arguments I’ve Won in the Shower: Vol 1 of 18. I laughed and thought, “that’s so funny because it’s so true!”
Later I started thinking about that meme. I stepped out of the shower, after I had just gotten the best of someone in an argument… I realized how insanely stupid it was to either relive past encounters, the whole “What I should’ve said”, or some hypothetical argument that will never happen. It’s not healthy. Satisfying, sure, you bet… but is it really? It’s just us living in a fantasy world where we control all the variables and outcomes, even changing history completely. Instead of taking the moment, moving on or learning something from it, we’re manufacturing a satisfaction built in fantasy land. There’s only so much energy and time in a day, why the hell are we wasting so much of it and shampoo in this fantasy argument land?
Let’s face it, these arguments aren’t just contained in the shower. No, they spill over and creep into other parts of our day. It ends up consuming us because that’s what we end up doing all day. We end up living full time in what was only meant to be our vacation home. And we all know what happens when we move full time to our vacation spot… it sucks! It’s depressing. It’s not nearly as fun as just spending a short amount of time there.
These little shower arguments skew our reality to the point where we stop looking at the truth, real life and start reading into things, getting too wrapped up into our own minds, dwelling on things we should’ve let go already. We start to become this negative thing that brings others down. Things start to look different and not in a good way. We become Energy Vampires (go read that one after this… you’ll like it).
A small amount of poison can still kill you. Our minds are our most valuable resource. We need to stop poisoning ourselves and start living in reality and progress forward. Productivity is what keeps us alive… moving forward. Let’s start to work on controlling our minds because once we do that… the possibilities are limitless. We are no longer slaves to a fantasy land. We can move past things that aren’t doing us any good and leave these arguments where they belong… behind us.
