Having goals is good. It gives you a destination, a focus…
Reflecting on the past can give you the tools to move forward.
The past and future can also rob you from the present or moving forward at all. Then the inevitable happens… you become stagnant; which is the death of the soul!
We get too caught up in looking at our past, wallowing in it, beating ourselves up over the things we can’t change. Why? We literally cannot change the past. Why live there?
We fantasize about the future. We daydream. What our life could be one day. Why? Why are we sitting around daydreaming and fantasizing all day?
We can’t have a future if we’re living in the past, we can’t have a present if we’re living in the future and we won’t have a future if we can’t start living in the present.
Forever is composed of nows. -Emily Dickinson
How do we start living in the future? By stopping… stop looking backwards and daydreaming. We need to have a goal, a specific destination where we want to be and we need to use the tools we learned from past lessons but, that’s where it ends. If it doesn’t help us progress in life… leave it. Stop dragging dead bodies around, pick the pockets, keep what you need and bury that rotting corpse. Stop playing hypothetical with yourself and do something that will make reality happen!
Let’s stop feeling guilty, angry or victimizing ourselves for things we can’t change and live! If we want something to happen we have to take action now to make it happen!
All we have is right now, right here… let’s close our eyes… take a deep breath… and let’s take our first action to live in the now so we can get to our destination.
