I have a plan. I want to be more productive and focused than I have been.
This is Day 1 of my Productivity Experiment.
First off… I’ve decided to do a few things different with my day that will hopefully maximize my productivity and help me achieve my goals.
1. Wake up earlier!
By wake up earlier, I mean I’m waking up at 4:00am. This paired with the fact that I’ve gone off coffee, just seems like I hate myself and enjoy torturing my poor soul, but I really don’t. Why the heck did I swear off coffee?! Reading Coffee is Evil! will explain it all. And no, I really don’t believe coffee is evil… just read it and you’ll see. Anywho, I read a few articles saying that waking up early can be very beneficial. Plus a lot of very successful people wake up early. Waking up early gives you a good jump start to the day. You can focus without any distractions from the outside world, because they’re all lazy and still asleep. You end up having a lot more time during the day to get things done or finally add in a routine you’ve been wanting to, but you just didn’t have enough time. We all have 24 hours during the day, might as well make the most of it, right?
2. Schedule my days!
A pretty simple one really. It’s not a ridged schedule with things planned out minute by minute, but blocks of time scheduled out for the tasks I need to get done. Also, cramming more into the schedule doesn’t mean productivity. Only planning a few important tasks a day is actually a more productive use of your time. Setting a time to check emails, make phone calls, work on projects, work out or do the daily chores will help you get things done without stressing and running around losing your mind. Making a schedule is helpful to avoid attention fragmentation, very important to focus your attention and not be scattered between multiple things at once.
3. Vision Board!
A lot of people believe in Vision Boards. I think having a Vision Board is a very helpful tool. Putting your goals out there as something you can see every day helps to keep your focus on what it is you are working towards. It’s a visual reminder to keep you motivated and not forget why you are pushing yourself.
Now, today is my first day of my new experiment. I woke up at 4:30am… I’ll actually get up at 4:00 tomorrow! Even though I am pretty tired right now, I feel like I’ve been pretty productive today. I keep looking at the clock thinking that it is going to be way later than what it really is. It’s somewhat of a good feeling to see that I’ve still got a majority of the day left… slightly not so nice when I’m tired and it’s only 1:30pm, haha! This will pass though and I’ll get used to the routine. As far as the Vision Board… I’m still working on that. I’ve got most of what I want to put on there, I just need to go to town to the little Variety Store and get the supplies to put the board together. And yes, the Variety Store is what you’re picturing… it’s a small town store that has everything from fabric to gardening supplies. Although, a majority of the items have been in there since the store opened 50 years ago.
So far it’s going well. I’ll do update later on to see how the experiment is going. I do have to say there is one person who is hating this experiment and that is my dog. He is VERY cranky. He enjoys sleeping in and is pretty upset with me right now. Every time I turn around he’s staring at me, trying to keep his eyes open with an extremely judgmental look. Maybe some cheese will make him love me again!
